iCompost: Meals, Peels and Fields

SECs is hosting an event called the "Campus Compost Forum".

It will be a panel discussion about our vision of a food sustainable campus. Speakers have been invited to share their roles in the project and the progress they have had. All these great ideas have been bounced around, so our goal is to pinpoint obstacles sp we can move the process forward.

This is the updated list of speakers:
Wes Jarrell
Bruce Branham
Dawn Aubrey
Todd Rusk
Tom Abram
Dick Warner
Michelle Wander

The event is on Wednesday, November 19 at 7pm in Latzer Hall at the
University YMCA. We're providing locally produced snacks!

Hope to see you there!

This is a new committee formed this year!

Teaming up with Horticulture Club, the Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences department, Facilities and Servies and the University Dining Halls, the project aims to create a more food-sustainable campus environment at the University of Illinois. This is a three component project following the life cycle of the food we eat, including the development of a student-run farm and the establishment of a campus composting facility. The farm will supply locally grown food to the dining halls, dining halls will compost waste and the waste will fertilize the fields. Through these initiatives, the University of Illinois has the potential to become a leading campus in sustainable food systems.

With the support of faculty adviser Wes Jarrell and the director of the Office of Sustainability, Dick Warner, we can accomplish a lot this year!

A wide range of work is more effectively completed in a more focused setting. Please contact the committee chairs with questions/comments/suggestions.
