Students for Environmental Concerns

The meeting minutes are below from Thursday. Its long so bear with me. THIS WEEK IS HUGE!!! There is so much to accomplish and so little time to do it in. I encourage all of you to email me and please let me know in what way you could help. Our first event is THIS SUNDAY!!! Over 800 RSO's have been emailed, 20 Greek houses are participating in the Green House Competition, and WE NEED ALL OF YOU TO HELP!! A lot of things are coming along great, but we need as much help as possible! Its crunch time!!

The next large meeting this Thursday October 25th will be at 5pm in the basement of the YMCA, not 5:30pm!!! Since there is so much to cover, I wanted to allow enough time to tie up loose ends and talk with each other. If you can't make the

Timeline of Events:

- Wednesday 10/24 - Leadership Center Meeting - 11am-12pm (come if you would like to help finalize the event on Sunday!)
- Thursday 10/25 - CORE MEETING 5pm in the basement of the YMCA
- Sunday 10/28 - CORE Workshop - 4-6pm - Colonial Room in the Illini Union
- Thursday 11/1 - Sustainable Concert (not the official title of the event, has not been one yet) - Canopy Club - we are Co-Sponsoring the event - time TBA
- Sunday 11/4 - Green House Competition KICK-OFF!! - Kickball Tournament - 1pm - Frat Park
- Monday 11/5 - Green House Competition Begins!!
- Thursday 11/8 - Live Green Week Barcrawl !!! - Co-Sponsoring this event - times TBA
- Friday 11/16 - Green House Competition ENDS!! Great success....

Needs from all of you:

- Sign up to be coaches for the Green House Campaign! This entails you being a liaison for the frat/sorority team, go to the recycling facility with them to weigh what they have collected, and be an overall motivator for the team! email meisens2@uiuc.edu if you are interested!!

- ATTEND THE WORKSHOP THIS SUNDAY, OCT 28th FROM 4-6pm. It will be held in the Colonial Room of the Union, and there will be a lot of RSO's there. We will need volunteers to help organize people/help everything run smoothly. Email me at ccarrol2@uiuc.edu if you want to help!
Please come and just talk with people and begin the great process of networking our group with multiple other groups campus-wide! SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!! :)

- WE NEED FUNDING!!!! We can get money to buy shirts, but we need more funds for bags for the Greek Competition, copying, food/snacks, etc for future events and Sunday! Email ccarrol2@uiuc.edu if you have a great idea or want to start a fundraising campaign.

- TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THE MEETING THIS SUNDAY!! We would like to have as many organizations represented as possible. If you have a friend that is interested in coming or wants to give more information to their organization, INVITE THEM!! :) Also, if you know someone that wants more information on what we are doing, please tell them to email ccarrol2@uiuc.edu with their questions!!

* Green-House Competition - Nov 5th-16th
o WE HAVE 20 HOUSES and more to come!!! wooooot :)

o Working on emails to houses as a thank you and when the first coaches meeting will be
o Green-House Competition information packet in the works - directions, suggestions, explanation of events
o Kickball Tournament the Sunday Nov 4th - get to know frat/sorority team, get to know coach, begin to come together for recycling
o Tim Hoss is being talked with to work out details about the use of his facilities
o Meeting held Tues. Oct 23rd - discussed points system, judging ideas, creativity competitions
o 1 point - every 10lbs of plastic, 2 points - every 10lbs of cans, 3 points - every 10lbs of paper (paper weighs more in bulk and in turn is more valuable to recycle)

Marketing:

* T-Shirts
o Will be a stencil design, spray paint T-shirts with the logo
o Cost will be low, selling price not too expensive but it will be a cool design
* Website
o We have a good amount of content, now needs to be put into a format and more details need to be worked out - NEED HELP WITH THIS
* Outreach PLAN AND PUBLICITY!!!
o We need to advertise this meeting on Sunday much more than it currently is being advertised. HUGE AMOUNT OF HELP NEEDED
* Cups for Live Green Barcrawl
o Look up quotes for cost and design

Events:

* Workshop Event on Sunday, Oct 23rd 4-6pm - needs a name?
o MEETING TONIGHT AT 6pm AT THE YMCA to finalize power point, agenda, topics, etc.
o Leadership Center meeting went well
+ Basically we are going to introduce ourselves, do a quick ice breaker (?), present our power point, break into discussion groups (2 rotations), and then bring it all together at the end.
+ If you are interested in putting this together, please come at any time tonight...we'll be there!
o NO PRE-MEETINGS WILL TAKE PLACE - it would be too crunched and there is not enough preparation.
o To the people who need to send out RSO emails - PLEASE SEND THE FINAL EMAIL OUT TONIGHT! thank you :)
o We should get a lot of people because we have received a lot of interest so far
* Live Green Barcrawl
o Meeting with bar managers about the night
o Green drink discount, dollar drinks in cups we would sell, no cover for people with T-shirts on
